Winter Warmers

Unfortunately I'm one of those people who feel the freeze, but I think I've finally perfected the art of layering for a kiwi winter. This particular skill has taken years of trial and error to hone -  trying to find the perfect base layer, jumper, cardi, coat and scarf combo to combat the multitude of weather scenarios we face over the course of a day in our island paradise.

I also find that mid-winter I feel like changing it up, finding a new 'perfect' outfit to thrash as a uniform for the remainder of the cooler months. Generally this involves a mid-season design, adapted to how I want to feel at this time of year - cosy, but cool. My latest fav is the Hussar coat - in plaid of course, because I am OVER black (except as a base layer) when it's this cold! I want to have fun with a classic, reviving a vintage trend towards tartan wardrobe staples. Check out our facebook page to see picturesque plaid at it's best, and if you too need a change, pop in to try some new classics to brighten up your winter wardrobe.

The Romance of Winter

Poetry is set in motion at Reign Clothing Gallery this Winter season. Inspired by the European Romantic movement of the 1800's, designs conjure visions of a Russian winter; Ballets Russes, Cossacks, Imperialism and Folk costume have all influenced the dramatic silhouettes - re-imagined with modern appeal.

Deep, rich colours are punctuated by vivid scarlets, bold plaids and subdued stripes.  Fine merinos layer and are combined with structured wools to present flattering and wearable styles. Divine textural contrasts are paired in striking combinations with looks that can be styled to suit a commercial environment or a more relaxed lifestyle. Practical and attractive, these pieces are feminine without the frou-frou.

Decoratively woven silk scarves are the preferred accessory for the Reign muse this winter. A modern day heroine in an urban landscape.

Sophisticated Summer...

We are welcoming the return of warmer weather by bringing back the luxury of linen and the divinity of silk. Think - boardwalk promenades on the French Riviera. Softly sensual styles are juxtaposed with more edgy pieces, reminiscent of the glamour of the 1920's.

Influences include Poiret and Vionnet, pierots and harlquins, western, and english country manor.
